Steps to restoring power

Step 1 – Transmission towers and lines rarely fail, but if they do, they must be restored first.

Step 2 – Substations are the next in line for restoration efforts.  Blue Ridge has 40 substations that serve 73,000 people.  Power restored to one substation can bring power back on for a large number of members.

Step 3 – Main distribution lines that run from the substation must be restored next.  They, too, carry power to a large number of members; perhaps serving a housing development or entire town.

Step 4 – Tap lines carry power to utility poles outside homes and other buildings.  Once more, priority is given to lines that will restore power to the largest number of members.

Step 5 – The service line that runs from an individual pole to the home may be damaged.  If you do not have power while the rest of your neighborhood does, this may be the problem.  A service crew will need to repair this.
